My Mississippi Teacher Corps Portfolio

Lisa Booth

I started teaching amid the cotton fields of Mississippi's Delta, at South Delta Middle School.  I taught 105 sixth graders how to work with fractions and decimals, how to classify polygons and how to solve simple equations.  After one year, I choose to move north, toward hillier horizons and (slightly) colder weather.  I am now teaching Algebra I at North Panola High School, and am introducing students to linear functions and quadratic equations.

This portfolio tells the story of two years of hard work and frustration; of learning my strengths and improving upon my weaknesses.  It tells the story of my growing love of teaching, and encouraging students.  These two years, condensed into this portfolio, have transformed me into a teacher, and I cannot imagine being anything else.
